30th Annual Virginia Run Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot


The Virginia Run Turkey Trot was founded in 1989 to promote health, community spirit and raise money for a charitable cause. Since its inception the race has donated over $1 Million to Life with Cancer. Watch the video to learn more.

Register as INDIVIDUALS or TEAMS!  As always, only the 5k will be timed, but teams can compete to take home the Golden Turkey, bragging rights and entry to next year’s race!

  • $30 through September 30, 2018
  • $35 October 1, 2018 through November 22, 2018

5K field is limited to the first 4000 registrants - No race day registration in the 5K

2K Walk

Children (12 & Under) and Seniors (65 & Over):

  • $10 through November 21, 2018
  • $15 on November 22, 2018

Adults (ages 13-64):

  • $15 through September 30, 2018
  • $20 October 1, 2018 through November 22, 2018

2K field is unlimited and race day registration will be available

Long-sleeve cotton t-shirts for all registrants (sizes are not guaranteed).

The USATF certified 5K course starts and finishes on Pleasant Valley Road and runs through the Virginia Run neighborhood.

There is no parking at the Virginia Run Community Center on Race Day.

Volunteers - we need you!!!

We need all outside course setup/tear down and traffic control race day volunteers to come to the clubhouse Saturday morning at 9am for training. We’ll have an early start Thanksgiving morning, and some advance instruction will make for a smoother day!!

2. Saturday 17th, 9am- For all volunteers planning to help with outside setup or traffic control on Thanksgiving morning, please come to the community center to receive training and instructions. This will help make the race morning run smoother!

Good Morning!!! We are officially 12 days away, YES 12!!!!

We have many volunteering opportunities! This is a perfect way to earn service hours for any students (especially in middle or high school) that need service hours for SGA or government class! We would also love the help from anyone who would just like to help! We greatly appreciate our volunteers and without you all this event would not be a success!!

Virginia Run Thanksgiving 5k Turkey Trot

We are officially 28 DAYS AWAY!!!

Know that with every effort that you put into training or waking up each day and choosing to start off positively it is making a difference. It may take time, but the fact that you get out there and give it your all; speaks volume!

You are capable of accomplishing such amazing things and by being part of this incredible event, you are not only helping yourself but are also making an impact on the community and in the lives of so many. Keep registering, keep training and most importantly, keep believing in yourself.

Timing for the 5K will utilize Chronotrack® B-Tag single use timing chips which are attached to the back of your race number bib. Please ensure the following in order to receive an accurate time.

  • Race bib is clearly visible on the FRONT of the torso
  • Race bib is unaltered and unmodified (Do not fold or wrinkle)
  • Race bib is pinned in all four corners
  • Race bib is not covered (jackets, runner belts, water bottles, etc.)

In order to receive your 5K time you must start the race on time! Due to the out and back design of the 5K course the start line can be kept open for a maximum of 10 minutes after the start of the race at 8:00 am. Once the start line has been closed it becomes the finish line and it is no longer possible to record start times for late arriving participants. If you arrive late please DO NOT enter the start/finish line area with your bib unless you have completed and are finishing the entire 5K. Please plan to arrive early enough on race day to park safely and get to the start line area by 8:00 am. If you still need to pick-up your race number bib on race day allow an extra 30 minutes.

After finishing the 5K it is important that all participants continue to move through and out of the finish chute. Please DO NOT wait for family and friends inside the finish chute, it creates a potentially dangerous backup and impedes other participants as they are finishing the race.

Dogs and Strollers are NOT permitted in the 5K, they are welcome in the 2K Walk.

The 2K Walk is not timed.
